Deck Builder in Quincy, IL
Family- and Veteran-Owned Deck Builders Serving Quincy, IL

At Area Home Services, we design and build custom decks and patios for residential properties in Quincy, IL and Adams County. Whether you’re planning a new ground-level patio in natural stone or pavers, a raised wood deck for entertaining, or a low-maintenance composite structure that holds up through Illinois winters, our family- and veteran-owned team handles the project from first measurement to final walkthrough.
We work with pressure-treated lumber, cedar, composite decking, and stone and paver surfaces, so material selection starts with what fits your home, your budget, and the demands of the local climate. Quincy’s freeze-thaw cycles put real stress on outdoor structures, and material choice and proper footing depth both matter for a deck that performs year after year. Our team is insured and follows a detailed checklist on every build, so nothing gets missed between breaking ground and handing over the finished space.

Jason and Ethan did really great work! They replaced the subfloor under our master bathroom shower, replace the toilets in both bathrooms, painted, installed new flooring, and showers. Everything looks really nice! The first week that they worked we were notified when they would be arriving, which was really nice. After week 1 we weren’t always sure when they would be showing up. Inconsistency in being notified of their arrival would be my only complaint.

"I am currently very satisfied with Area Home Services"
I watched as this company went through changes, was a bit hesitant when they changed names-- but I stayed with them and was very very glad I did. Latest call was for Summer A/C general preventive service- I was impressed with the professionalism of Skylar, and his knowledge. I also think the summer/ winter service deal was a great price- and they even offer more than previously. I am currently very satisfied with Area Home Services

Had the floor of my front porch replaced. The two guys were here on time and did a very good job. Worked hard and did a great job. I am planning on using them again this spring or early summer for another project.

Planning Your Deck or Patio Project in Quincy
A deck or patio project goes more smoothly when the key decisions are worked through before construction begins. Our team walks Quincy homeowners through these choices using a structured process backed by a detailed checklist, so nothing gets glossed over during the planning stage.
Key factors to work through before breaking ground:
- Purpose and use: A space designed mainly for dining needs different dimensions and features than one built for lounging or play. Knowing the primary use shapes almost every other decision.
- Size and layout: The deck or patio should be proportionate to the home and the yard. An undersized structure feels cramped; an oversized one can overwhelm the lot.
- Materials: Natural wood offers a classic appearance; pressure-treated lumber and cedar are common choices. Composite decking requires less ongoing maintenance. Stone and pavers suit ground-level patios well. Each material carries different upfront costs and long-term care requirements.
- Architectural compatibility: The design should complement the style of the home and connect cleanly to existing outdoor features.
- Budget: A realistic budget covers materials, labor, permit fees, and any add-ons like built-in seating or lighting. Our free estimates give you a clear picture before any work begins.
- Illinois climate: Freeze-thaw cycles in the Quincy area affect both material performance and structural requirements. Deck footings in Illinois typically need to extend 36 to 42 inches below grade to reach below the frost line. Decks over 30 inches above grade require guardrails under the IRC.
- Privacy and accessibility: Screens, fencing, or strategic landscaping can create a more private space. Steps, ramps, and pathways should be safe and convenient for all users.
- Local permits: Under Illinois Public Act 103-0510, effective January 1, 2025, municipalities and counties that adopt a building code must enforce standards at least as strict as the International Residential Code. Most deck construction in Adams County requires a permit. Our team is familiar with local requirements and can help you understand what applies to your project.
